IODINE TOXICITY
It is critical to note that ingesting sea moss may be dangerous for individuals with hyperthyroidism, Grave's disease, or autonomous thyroid nodules as the high concentrations of iodine may cause thyrotoxicosis. Mild symptoms of iodine toxicity include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and upset stomach which can lead to more severe symptoms such as shock, stupor, and delirium. Ingesting greater than 1.1 milligrams/day of iodine can put one at risk of such symptoms. Iodine toxicity is rarely lethal, however, if such symptoms arise stop ingestion immediately and consult with a physician as soon as possible.
